Review and Giveaway - Today I Ate a Rainbow! Closed

I remember a time when my twin sons were toddlers and my mother-in-law was feeding one some of her cornbread at a restaurant. He would occasionally make a weird face, but then would open his mouth eagerly for the next bite. None of us had tried the cornbread—and when we did, we found that it had jalapenos in it! Now that they are almost six, I am still surprised at what my children will try and what they enjoy eating.

That said, it is always a challenge making sure that we get all our daily fruit and vegetable servings.
Kia Robertson’s Today I Ate a Rainbow! is a great aid in doing just that. The kit includes a chart with five colors and a list of corresponding fruits and vegetables, magnets, a color-coded shopping list and The Rainbow Bunch! book.

The book follows five children who don’t eat their fruits and vegetables, the consequences they face and how they ultimately learn to eat their fruits and vegetables “one bite at a time.” The book has cute illustrations, easy-to-follow rhymes and simple explanations.  My son Eli was particularly concerned about the little girl Pippa, who “wanted to grow, but no fruit and veggies makes growing so slow!” That was motivation enough for him.

Both of my sons were thrilled to see the children in the book using the same chart that comes with the kit. The chart is simply laid out and easy to follow, and my sons loved the pictures of Kia‘s cute daughter Hannah. (I think they both have a crush on her.) The color-coded shopping list helps me remember to get fruit and vegetables of each color when I’m at the store and the boys also enjoy picking out their favorites.

After using the chart for a while, it was particularly exciting for me to hear things from my sons like, “Can I try eggplant?” and “Can I have my blueberries before I get some chips?” Today I Ate a Rainbow! has been a great help in getting us to eat more and a varied selection of all our fruits and vegetables. I have yet to get a request for jalapenos.

My little boy would LOVE this! He will try new fruits sometimes....but not always. It would be wonderful if I could get him to eat a red strawberry or blue berry!!! This is such an awesome product. I would be grateful to win this wonderful learning tool! Good job WNC parent for showcasing this good product

I would LOVE to win Today I ate a rainbow because it will assist me with my daily efforts to succeed in feeding my two children their fruits and veggies, as well I have a Daycare of 8 children M-F!  I also am the owner/opperator of Yoga Bears, a Yoga Studio for Children from ages 3 - 12.  I think having one of these displayed in my studio would be great for all the Moms to see :)

My little one is now more aware of the choices he makes and think this would be a wonderful way for him to SEE how his choices are coming along.  Plus it encourages him to be healthy.  This sounds great!

I would love to win this prize because my son is autistic and is very limited in what he eats. We have to use a lot of supplements to keep him healthy. He does thrive but his doc really wants him to be trying more foods. He LOVES rainbows, so maybe this will help us!

This seems like such a great idea. As a stay at home mom, I find myself constantly struggling to make sure that my kiddos eat nutritious food, and that they don't come to believe that mac and cheese belongs on the rainbow chart! This chart and book seem like they would be a fabulous tool in helping with that goal.

I think I ate a Rainbow looks amazing. I would love to be able to share this book with the parents and children of the Playcentre I work at. It would be agreat way to encourage them to eat their five plus a say. Our Playcentre is a member of the Healthy Heart program and always on the look out for new equipment and games to use. The chidlren at the Palcyentre are form o to five years of age. I am not in the US or Canada but I would happily pay the postage! thanks

This looks adorable! I have four children that I fight tooth and nail to eat vegetables. Every time my daughter declares she hates broccoli, her brothers detest it too. When my son says he hates corn, then his younger brother hates it too. Maybe, just maybe with the book and chart my wonderful bunch will see the benefits of enjoying an array of fruits and veggies everyday.

I've had my eye on this for a while! I would definitely use this at home with my daughter. I am also a second grade teacher and I want to find a way to incorporate this in class!
